Rocking for Autism

Calling All compassionate LRGTV fans. Looking for something fun to do, in which you can also make a difference? Then we may have just what you are looking for. On June 26, Cook’s Café, on 203 Church St. in Naugatuck, will be hosting the third annual “Rocking for Autism.” For the relatively low admission price of $10, attendees can enjoy a buffet, featuring such items as baked ziti and sausage and peppers, and live music from three local rock bands.

At the same time, attendees will have the satisfaction that they are donating to a good cause. Naugatuck resident and event founder Tom Warrington stated that he conceived of the event in response to his son being diagnosed with the condition. Warrington avowed that “While I was doing the research to be a better parent,” he realized the fight against autism was not getting enough funding “compared to other diseases and disorders that are a lot less prevalent right now.” According to Warrington, “1 in 110 kids will be diagnosed this year” with autism “and out of that, 70% will be boys.” In addition, he stated autism “is the fastest growing disability.”

Per Warrington, after the bills are paid for (bands play for free and Cook’s owner Mark Cook provides food at no cost), “everything else goes to Autism Speaks,” which claims to be the nation's largest organization for autism research and advocacy. Doors open at 7 PM, first band goes on at 8 P.M. For more information, Warrington can be reached at (203) 745-8111. In addition, LRGTV will be filming the event.
